Marvin van Wyk, professionally known as Cream Machine, is a South African Afrikaans hip-hop artist from Kuils River in Cape Town. Emerging from the Cape Flats rap movement, he built a reputation for sharp lyricism, gritty storytelling, and an authentic portrayal of working-class life in the Western Cape. His music blends classic Cape Town hip-hop influences with contemporary production, often addressing social realities, ambition, identity, and township culture.
Van Wyk began rapping during his school years and later became involved in local rap collectives, including Rapbels and Bruinstormaz. He released his debut album through Pioneer Unit Records in 2012, with tracks such as “Cape Flats” and “Stamina” later featured in the acclaimed South African film 'Four Corners' in 2014.
His growing profile led to recognition within Afrikaans hip-hop, culminating in a deal with Select Music, the Afrikaans division of Sony Music Entertainment. Songs like “Raak Taatie,” “Op Dai,” “Doen Jou Ding,” “Rare Steak,” and “Blokke” helped establish him as a notable voice in modern Afrikaans rap.
Cream Machine’s style is often characterized by witty punchlines, bilingual slang, melodic hooks, and a balance between party-oriented tracks and socially conscious themes. He has collaborated with artists including Early B, Mr Heinz, MC Wanted, and Shaney Jay, while continuing to represent Cape Town’s underrepresented Afrikaans urban culture.
